Brown spots? Grubs? Isolate Plants Immediately

An infestation can happen at any time. My plants, however, have been disease free throughout the summer.

The days are colder, and I think that’s causing stress on plants that have been otherwise healthy. In October I am noticing that leaves on one plant have brown spots.

I’ve isolated the plant so the spots on these leaves don’t spread to other plants.

I’m diligent with watching my plants. I’ve found that that’s the best way to stop the spread of spots or grubs.

Now, I’d take brown spots over grubs any day.

Why Regular Watering is Crucial: Stress on Tomato Plants

Regular watering is crucial for tomato plants in particular, when the weather gets colder, the soil will look damp, but your plant still needs regular watering.

Here is an example of why regular watering is crucial. When tomato plants aren’t watered consistently – every day around the same time, the fruit becomes stressed. The more days you miss watering the plant the more ware and tear the plant shows.

When this happens, as you can see here, the fruit is growing and the skin is stretching. It looks like the tomato is ripping itself apart.

Summer Gardening is Coming to an End: Mid October

I went outside today to prune dead branches and leaves from each plant. When I was done I collected the vegetables that had grown since the last post. (I should admit that every morning I step outside I pick tomato to eat during my walk to and from my house. There would be a lot more if this wasn’t the case…I can’t help it though. It’s a good breakfast.)

I’m always sad at this time. The change in season with cool weather creates stress on my summer garden.
